Greetings to all Sillimanians... I am presently working and living here in South Carolina, and I am just wondering if you do have some list of Sillimanians here and in North Carolina. I guess there is no chapter created yet in these places as browse in this website. It would be nice to meet SU alumni and create one chapter here. I hope that they will come together and pose their addresses or contact numbers so that fellow alumni will be able to reach each other.

Dear Angela, I have approved your entire guest book entry not only because freedom of expression is the hallmark of any educational institution of any repute but also because constructive criticism is ultimately good. I inquired with the president regarding your son’s case. He understands your concern and is looking into his records to see if there is anything in his files that indicates that your son’s case came to his attention. While I am writing this, though, it has just occurred to me that the current president, Dr. Ben Malayang III, has been in office less than a year so unless your son's case happened after June 1, 2006, it is highly unlikely that anything will turn up. As a matter of policy, though, the president of the university does not get involved in the particulars of any student’s academic program. The rare exceptions would be when matters aggregate into a policy issue, in which case the office presides over discussions over the policy, not individuals. The situation, as you described it, is very sad. If it is true, I am so sorry that it has happened. I only hope that it is an isolated case and will not happen again. Knowing the current president's leadership style, I am confident that it won't. I wish the best for your children's education. Yours truly, The Rev. Dr. Federico I. Agnir, Executive Director and webmaster, SUACONA

I was browsing your site and noticed that one of your objectives is to increase the financial support of the University with North American financial help. My son (dual citizen) recently was accepted at Silliman into the Nursing program. The Registrar tested him and accepted his U.S. university credits as he passed all their challenge exams between 97 and 99%. After starting the nursing program, the Director of the program called him in and asked him why he had not signed up for all the co-curricullar courses. On learning that he had received credit for his prior courses in the U.S., she directed him to take the courses over again or leave the nursing program. She did not believe that United States Universities could instruct students on an equal level as Silliman. The president of the university was afraid to stand up to her and instead compromised - my son could take 'Nutrition' and then reapply for the nursing program. This was ludicrous!! My son dropped the program and returned to the U.S. I had already spent 50K on his education at a private college in the U.S. I have to say that with this type of attitude towards U.S. students, I am unwilling to support Silliman any further. I wonder if any other U.S. alumni have had similar experiences. My daughter has since graduated from their high school program. She is enrolling at Silliman, though I asked her not to!! So much for supporting your alumni!!!
